Propolis

2025-10-21

Propolis comes from plant tissues and secretions harvested by bees and mixing them with secretions from their own glands such as palatine glands and wax glands.

At present, according to the different plant sources of propolis, the propolis found around the world can be broadly categorized into four types: Poplar type, Baccharis type, Clusia type and Mediterranean type. In terms of chemical constituents, propolis mainly includes flavonoids, terpenoids, phenolic acids, aldehydes and ketones, hydrocarbons, steroids, saccharides, vitamins, enzymes, amino acids, macronutrients and trace elements. So far, propolis researchers around the world have isolated and identified more than 600 compounds from propolis using different techniques. Among them, there are 204 kinds of flavonoids, 231 kinds of terpenoids and 194 kinds of phenolic compounds.

Propolis is rich in flavonoids, terpenoids and phenolic compounds with a wide range of biological and pharmacological activities.

Propolis has excellent antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory activities; it has obvious hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic effects; it has cytotoxic effects on a variety of tumor cells and has antitumor activity; it can improve the oxidative stress injury of the liver, and has a hepatoprotective effect; it has the effect of promoting tissue regeneration and trauma repair; and it has the effects of anti-gastric ulcers, anti-fatigue, neuroprotection and so on.

Melifera is committed to discovering the world's high-quality propolis raw materials, processing and extracting them in a refined manner, standardizing their characteristic active ingredients, and providing customers with highly efficient and applicable solutions for pharmaceuticals, food (dietary supplements, health food), and personal care with propolis elements.
