Grill, Gather, Grow

Last Friday, Melifera held a summer barbecue team-building event.
A group of people, a few decks of cards, and a grill — that was all it took to make a perfect summer afternoon.
Some gathered around the grill, taking turns flipping the food, their faces lit by the glowing charcoal. Others sat in the shade playing cards, laughter rising in waves. There was no designated grill master — anyone who wanted to show off their skills could grab the tongs. Some grilled to golden perfection, while others occasionally produced a few "charred specials" — but everything that made it to the table was shared and enjoyed, without complaint.
The best team isn’t made of perfect individuals, but of different people who choose to come together and share an afternoon around a warm fire.
Outside the office, we saw another side of each other. The little gestures — "You go ahead, I'll take over" by the grill, or a genuine "nice play" at the card table — were small moments that spoke volumes about our team spirit.
Team cohesion doesn’t need to be orchestrated. It grows naturally the moment we step out of the office, when all it takes is a shared setting for everyone to show up as their authentic selves.
The best team-building is this: everyone enjoying their own thing, yet still looking out for one another.
As dusk fell, we sat together, chatting about work anecdotes and everyday life, our laughter mingling with the smoky aroma. In that moment, no one was just a bystander — everyone belonged, and everyone felt the warmth of being part of something together.
We’re already looking forward to the next gathering, and to many more moments worth remembering. And our story continues.
